Sustainability Policy
At Green Door Tours, we aim to create memorable guest experiences that reflect and protect the unique environment and community in which we operate. The accommodation where our guests stay during their holiday, is committed to protecting and enhancing the natural environment through sustainable horticulture, biodiversity conservation, responsible land management, and environmentally conscious operations. The estate supports biodiversity by protecting native woodland, meadow, and bog habitats, planting native trees, creating pollinator-friendly gardens, and carefully managing natural resources. We have designed our business model to be as sustainable as possible, including limiting guest numbers. Sustainability is part of our daily way of life, and we hope it remains with our guests long after they return home. Our actions and commitments to the environment, our guests, employees, suppliers, and local communities are outlined below. Sustainability has been embedded in our business from the beginning, and we are committed to continuous improvement. We support, adopt, and apply the UNWTO definition of Sustainable Tourism (see below).
Local food culture
We are committed to preserving and reviving local food culture and heritage. We make all our own breads, pastries, jams, and soups using locally grown organic ingredients.
We prioritise local, high-quality suppliers for most of our produce and aim to replace imported goods with quality local or Irish alternatives to keep food miles to a minimum.
Waste
We have eliminated all single-use plastics from guest amenities, replacing them with locally made, environmentally friendly soaps, shampoos, and creams.
We run a rigorous recycling programme for cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, and other materials. We also work to keep landfill waste to a minimum and have reduced our combined business and private waste to within the standard weekly domestic allowance.
We compost all green and organic waste.
We use only environmentally friendly guest amenities and cleaning, household, and garden products, with no chemical pesticides.
Responsible trading practices
We source only from responsible traders and aim to support the best of Tipperary, Offaly and Irish makers. We place particular emphasis on small local producers, makers, and suppliers who contribute to the community and use local materials and methods.
We are committed to fair trading practices with our suppliers, guests, and employees. Community & networks
- We have absolute respect for the community in which we are located and the impact of tourism on the people, heritage and environment of the area
